Trustees and members of the public attended the Annual General Meeting of the EBCF on September 5th at Acacia House in Whakatane. Chairman Douglas Bull QSM JP outlined progress made over the previous twelve months and plans to engage with citizens, organisations and businesses in the year ahead, in order to grow awareness of the purpose of the foundation, in providing a solid financial platform to sustain worthwhile activities in the region well into the future

     Alzheimers EBOP Endowment Fund 

Dementia dramatically changes the lives of people who live with it, together with their families and communities. It is a major and growing health challenge in our Eastern Bay communities and requires an urgent response to provide professional care and support on a daily basis to those affected. A generous donation has been made to set up this named endowment fund, which will provide income to assist with support and care into the future. The fund will be launched on Thursday 26th October in Whakatane. 

 Opotiki Heritage Museum

It was with real delight that the Trustees of the EBCF paid a visit to The Opotiki Heritage Museum to see the progress that has been made in preserving, restoring and showcasing important heritage artefacts of the Opotiki District and East Cape region of New Zealand.

The diligent efforts & enthusiasm  of the volunteers along with the  careful planning of the Museum stalwarts have seen some eye catching displays of the goods of yesteryear, for the many visitors that make this place a destination.  


A forward thinking local donor, setting up an endowment fund has meant that the Museum can count on a regular contribution to their operating budget, every year. Preserving the history of the district was very important to this donor.

This year the Museum Trustees intend to purchase a couple of   humidity controlled display cases to house some very special & worthy ancient items.


  

Community Foundations Workshop

Several trustees made the journey to Wellington in September to collaborate with and be inspired by the work of the fourteen other community foundations, working throughout New Zealand. We felt heartened by the progress we are making here in the Eastern Bay, in ensuring people are aware of the role we play in supporting our communities into the future.  Liz Palmieri from Niagara CF in Canada was the keynote speaker, and will be joining us early in 2018 here in the Bay.

Vital Signs Research Project

Vital Signs 2017 has been a collaborative research project across the Western Bay of Plenty, Tauranga City, Opotiki, Kawerau and Whakatane Districts, Rotorua, Taupo and Turangi.

Participants have been asked some searching questions covering all range of community facilities and activities. This will provide the framework for funders looking at where the need is highest and where to apply funding in the years ahead to meet the greatest need.

This research has been well supported by participants ( chosen at random ) in our area. Costs for this research have been underwritten with generous help from The Eastern Bay Energy Trust, alongside our three District Councils. Results will be presented in early 2018.
