(The late) Rod and Jacqui McPherson

Turning a tragedy into something positive and enduring, is how the family, friends and rural connections of Rod McPherson have coped with his untimely death in an early morning accident on a farm in Nukuhou, Whakatane in March 2022.

Rod and his wife Jacqui had been extremely supportive of young farming cadets and exchange students on the farms they have worked and managed for over 40 years in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Rod was a passionate farmer, and even more passionate about passing on his knowledge and work ethic to those choosing a rural career. Rod was strong on animal welfare, caring for the environment, and improving the production in their dairy herd. Rod was a strong supporter of community events and got through tough times with a wry sense of humour. His committment and enthusiasim was infectious, and the young trainees always left the farm with more than they ever anticipated.

This scholarship opportunity, created with donated funds from the rural community,  will honour the legend that he was, and provide a solid foundation for an agricultural career. If you are keen to start or continue your farming aspirations with a course of study at tertiary level ...apply today. Applications opened on August 1st and close on September 14th.
