Lockdown Level 4 presented a huge range of challenges across Aotearoa, and the Eastern Bay of Plenty was no exception to that. The Waikato-Bay of Plenty Cancer Society supports many vulnerable patients across the region, and it soon became apparent with the tight restrictions, that access to safe, easy to heat, nutritious meals was yet another hurdle in providing essential care and support. It was quickly established that a chest freezer that could be utilised as a storage facilty, within the region was needed. This was an item that the Eastern Bay Community Foundation was very happy to provide in order to meet an ongoing need, but particularly apparent during the Covid crisis, with limitations on movements and access for immuno-compromised patients.
