Verna McDonnell, long time resident of Opotiki has established a fund to assist with the preservation of precious taonga and heritage items particular to the Opotiki District. The fund distributions annually support The Opotiki DeLuxe Theatre restoration and The Opotiki Heritage Museum each on alternate years.

Verna has been a great supporter of the Eastern Bay Community Foundation and is delighted to see her gift in action, in her home town, making a difference in the way she intended.

Verna has committed her life to service through the Brigidine Sisters of her Catholic faith, and has taught many children over the years to read, count and appreciate music, as well as learn about the changing world they have grown into. Verna is a well respected 'Sister' to all in the Opotiki Community, and continues to volunteer where her contribution is appreciated.
