This fund represents a desire by past students of Opotiki College and those within the Opotiki District to support youth within the school environment, and to provide an annual scholarship to be known as the Tu Kahikatea Scholarship.
This fund encourages donations from individuals, past students, organisations and businesses in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and beyond, who wish to contribute towards this permanent legacy for the benefit of Opotiki College.
Anyone can contribute and the fund will receive donations of any size.
Funding from the Opotiki College Alumni Endowment Fund will be used to acknowledge students who show committment and effort towards achieving their potential, and utilised to create opportunities to enhance excellence in the endeavours of youth attending the school.
The Opotiki College Alumni Endowment Fund will consider applications annually for:
- Tu Kahikatea Scholarship for a student who has shown committment and effort during their time at Opotiki College and has worked to improve themselves; shown strength of character and displayed leadership qualities.
- Special projects and activities that will enhance the learning opportunities of students attending the school, including, but not limited to: a) Students in need or suffering genuine temporary or long term financial hardship preventing them from being fully involved in school activities. b) Capital items that will enhance the learning environment, not funded by Government educational bulk funding.
