Celebrating Community Philanthropy

Excitement filled the air as each car delivered generous New Zealanders into the Ballroom at Government House. Warmly greeted by staff, representatives of the 17 regionally based Community Foundations, had scrubbed up well for the occasion.

Formalities began with a karakia and mihi whakatau, and reciprocal waiata filled the air as each speaker told their story.

Her Excellency Dame Cindy touched on how generous New Zealanders had responded to the devastation of recent weather events, and also reiterated a story of how the loss of a son, by one couple in the room, had become a positive and powerful legacy, ensuring essential water based skills were being delivered, thanks to the generosity of whanau and friends.  Just one example of many, in the stories of the difference that thoughtful generosity can make in communities.

MC: Community Foundations Ambassador Miriama Kamo skillfully led the evening with her own story and applied her warmth and humour throughout the evening. John McCarthy CEO of the Tindall Foundation gave a real insight into why Sir Stephen and Lady Margaret Tindall through their foundation, have supported, so willingly the growth of Community Foundations in New Zealand. (In the Eastern Bay, we are forever grateful to the generosity of the Tindall Foundation, in providing financial and support resources to help us become established). Raymond Key, Chairperson of Community Foundations Aotearoa-New Zealand encouraged everyone in the room to activate, animate and amplify our work in building resilient and resourceful, connected communities. His words: shout it from the rooftops, tell our stories of impact and invite generous New Zealanders to join us in our quest.

Over the past five years, over $50million has been invested in New Zealand communities through the generous giving of New Zealanders across our country.

Come and join us, and support your passions and feel good about giving back to the place you live, love and thrive.
