The Acorn Foundation (our sister foundation in the Western Bay) recently hosted the 2019 Outward Bound Scholaship celebration at The Kollective in Tauranga, where WHS students Scarlett Clarke and Amelie Clements were chosen to receive two of the 14 scholarships awarded annually to students from the Western Bay Secondary Schools and Whakatane High School, to attend the Tangaroa Watch programme at Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds.

Students are selected by their schools and Outward Bound staff members based on their committment to their school and their community, with demonstrated financial need and an opportunity to improve their self confidence. Committed donors and local supporters provide these valuable scholarships to this 21-day long programme that uses outdoor adventures and activities to build resilience, perserverence and communication skills to provide life-long benefits.

Congratulations to Scarlett and Amelie.
