Mountain View Care Facility Kawerau
A thoughtful legacy set to benefit the residents of the Mountain View Care facility in Kawerau, has been made a reality by the daughter of a recent resident of Mountain View. Adrienne Lukes was cared for in her twilight years in Kawerau and has left a gift that will provide support for counselling for residents and their families facing challenging circumstances and the end of life, as well as additional occupational therapy - including the use of therapy animals and whatever is needed to enhance the quality of life for residents - to assist them to 'live their best lives'.
Waterwheel Historic Trust
The smiles were wide on Saturday 27th January 2024, among the long serving, stalwart volunteers, who assembled to finally and officially bless and open the new home of the Waterwheel Historic Trust, just off State Highway 30, on the Kawerau Road. Now to be known as the Waterwheel Heritage Park. After many obstacles, including the extremely wet winter and spring of 2022, summer and autumn of 2023, and the ever-changing requirements of local government compliance, the doors were firmly flung OPEN! A well displayed range of early equipment and articles were able to be viewed and admired by those present.
Progress has been swift to secure a purpose-built ablution block for the local Eastern Bay Group Riding for Disabled arena in Whakatane, thanks to the generosity of the women who have partnered to build the Eastern Bay Womens Impact Fund, set up to benefit women and children in the Eastern Bay.
Careful planning at this time of year is essential to capture the needs of our communities - the seasons determine the ebbs and flows of work demands on our farmers, horticulturists, fishermen- even the school terms are set to provide education in bite-sized chunks with a few breaks along the way. We aim to ensure any events we host are at the most convenient times to allow our community members to fully participate. We invite you, our readers to come along on this journey with us, in 2024.
