News from the Eastern Bay Community Foundation

Great news for Whanau Awhina Plunket Eastern Bay of Plenty… Thanks to the generosity of women around the Eastern Bay … This team have been voted as the recipient of the inaugural Impact 100 Fund. Their project, presented for consideration by the donors, involves targeted support for high risk and new mums throughout the Eastern Bay, connecting and supporting these women through a difficult time. COVID restrictions, economic circumstances, rural and ethnic isolation have all contributed to the high levels of concern around maternal mental health in the region. This project aims to inject some early intervention and provide much needed connection for these mums and their babies. Our heartfelt thanks to our very generous donors for making this possible.  Watch this space as we update donors and interested parties of the successes and challenges of this project.

Rod McPherson Memorial Rural Scholarship
Establishing a memorial rural scholarship in the wake of a tragic accident, which took the life of Rod McPherson, was the best possible way to honour the man and his commitment and passion for encouraging young people into a career in agriculture. Rod was a great mentor to the many farm cadets that he has fostered over forty years in dairy farming in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Changing lives, one experience at a time, by providing positive opportunities for youth in the Opotiki District, has been one of the goals of the Opotiki Kiwifruit Growers Community Fund, administered in collaboration with growers and the Eastern Bay Community Foundation. Funding grants have recently been announced for the 2021 year.
Delivering safe and effective programmes to develop self-worth, independence, balance and increased physical, emotional and social capacity has been the goal of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Group Riding for the Disabled, through facilitated interaction with horses from their Awatapu, Whakatane base.
